EKU Friends of Soccer Player Diary 5

On Friday morning we had training. Later that day the team went to a Ropes Course near campus for some team bonding activities. The course dared us to use teamwork to solve the challenges given to us. It was a fun time where we were able to grow as a team and become gain trust in one another. On Saturday we practiced in the morning to prepare us for our game against Western Kentucky University on Sunday. On Saturday evening we all met at Johnny Carino’s in Lexington for a team dinner and to meet a recruit from California. The atmosphere and delicious food made for a great night to prepare us for our game. On Sunday morning we had practice where we had a jog and stretch session with Brenton. We then had the next hour and a half to mentally prepare for the game. When we came back to the locker room we put our gear on and set team goals for the game. The game began and we started out strong and possessed the ball well. Unfortunately we had two mishaps in the back which resulted in a goal for Western. But we were able to fight back and Janelle Coates put in a goal for us, which made the score even at half time. In the second half both teams fought hard to get a result, but we ended up going into overtime and the score stayed the same. We were all very pleased with the way the team played and agree that it was one of the best games we’ve played yet. Right after the game the parents had tailgating with all kinds of great food setup for us. We enjoyed finally being able to meet each other’s parents. It was a great finish to a great day!
