EKU Friends of Soccer Player Diary 10

This weekend was a test of our character as a team. The word I would use to describe Friday’s match was resilience. We needed to bounce back from our losses the previous weekend. We knew we had it in us to reward ourselves for our hard work we put in from the training sessions from last week. We ended up winning the game versus Jacksonville State 5-0. The score looks like a blowout, but we scored 5, actually 6, goals all in different ways. We had a 2nd goal early in the 2nd half that was called back. The 5 goals were scored by 4 different people, which shows our versatility on the field. We scored the first goal by a beautiful threw ball to an outside forward, the second goal came off of a scramble and battle won in the box, the third came from a back pass picked off by our outside forward, the fourth came from a half-chance outside of the 18, and the fifth came from a long ball from an outside back and a deflection off of our center forward. We showed a lot of improvement in our Friday night game and it proves to ourselves that we can be the great team we deserve to be. We traveled on Saturday to Austin Peay. We were doing things right on the field all game on Sunday but we couldn’t decide to put the game away by scoring early. Once we figure out how to score early on we will be an even better team. We lost the battle against Austin Peay 1-0, but we know we will bounce back again this weekend. We have all the tools we need in order to do what we know we can in the Conference and we aren’t letting losses get in our way of our goals. We know we have a lot of growing to do still and we’re all looking forward to a week of hard, quality training. We will bounce back from Sunday’s game just like we bounced back from last weekend. We all are still holding our heads up high and doing the “grit” that we need in order to win our last conference game.
