EKU Soccer Qualifies for Third Straight OVC Tournament

RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University women’s soccer team will enter the OVC Tournament as the No. 5 seed and will play the No. 4 seed Eastern Illinois in the first game of the single-elimination tournament on Thursday, Nov. 4, at 5:00 p.m. at Morehead State’s Jayne Stadium.

It is the Colonels’ third consecutive OVC Tournament berth in only the program’s sixth year of existence.

EKU (7-8-2, 4-4-0 OVC) was narrowly defeated at EIU (6-8-5, 3-2-3 OVC), 1-0, on Oct. 10. The Colonels won their first three conference games of the season before dropping four of their last five. All four of EKU’s conference losses were by one goal.

The game should feature two solid defenses as the Colonel backline surrendered only six goals in seven OVC games this season while the Panther backline surrendered only five.

Freshman striker Nicole Donnelly leads the EKU attack with six goals. Four of those goals came during conference season and two of them were game-winners.

Morehead State earned the top seed and the right to host the three-day event that will take place Nov. 4-5 and 7. Southeast Missouri is the No. 2 seed and, along with the Eagles, will receive a first-round bye. Austin Peay is the No. 3 seed followed by Eastern Illinois, Eastern Kentucky and Murray State.

The entire tournament can be seen for free on OVCSports.TV.

EKU will wrap up its regular season schedule with a non-conference matchup at home against Longwood on Wednesday, Oct. 27, at 3:00 p.m.
